Purpose

Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV: But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.

In my seeking to better understand my purpose, there is one thing I am certain of: my purpose is not to seek my purpose. As many things in the Christian life, Godīs purpose for us is revealed to us by "Him" as we seek Him. Seeking oneīs purpose is often motivated, at least in part, by a desire to find fulfillment. I may be seeking to understand Godīs purpose for me because on some level, it will make me feel better about who I am, or it may fill some void within me. The trouble with spending too much time trying to understand my purpose is that it is too easy for my focus to be more greatly placed on myself, than on Jesus. If I have no purpose but to seek Christ and to follow Him fully, then He defines my purpose moment by moment. As such, I release my need to understand His will for my life, and I simply trust Him with my life. It is then I find my greatest fulfillment is not in understanding who I am, but in learning more about who Jesus is.
